Tid: December 1, 2017 - late February, 2018
Sted: The Johannes Larsen Museum
We reveal the joy of Johannes Larsen’s world on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the artist’s birth.
With the exhibition “A Wonderful World”, the museum will focus on Johannes Larsen’s wonderful world. Johannes Larsen is highly relevant today, and his joy in nature and his esthetic view of nature are perhaps more meaningful now than ever before.
We “borrow” Johannes Larsen’s eyes when we observe nature, and many artists have also found inspiration in Larsen’s comprehensive body of work. In this exhibition, we will reveal the joy inhabiting Johannes Larsen’s world, with a focus on the many possibilities it offers us today, 150 years after his birth.
Johannes Larsen was there when Kerteminde Museum was established in 1937, and he made sure that the little provincial museum started off with an extensive art collection. It included works by the artist himself, but also from the many artists around him. The exhibition “A Wonderful World” consists of those works of art Larsen collected himself for Kerteminde Museum, tied in with a tribute to Larsen with works of art selected by people (artists, lovers of nature, ornithologists, actors, politicians, etc.) who in one way or another have found inspiration in Johannes Larsen’s wonderful world. A special theme has to do with the people of Kerteminde and their take on Larsen: what has his art and his artists’ home on Møllebakken meant to them? In connection with the exhibition, a catalogue will be published, where the same people have been invited to tell about the pleasure Larsen’s world has given them, in the form of a little story or a work of art.
Part of the project will be a competition for school classes on Funen, with the winning class exhibiting their artwork in the exhibition space called the Side Wing.
