Tid: Feb. 10 - May 13, 2018
Sted: The Johannes Larsen Museum
Experience one of Denmark’s most notable artists in this anniversary exhibition.
Jes Fomsgaard has made his mark as one of Denmark’s most striking visual artists with his own characteristic expression. Since he lives right outside of Kerteminde, it’s an obvious choice for the Johannes Larsen Museum to hold his anniversary exhibition. We will show well-known as well as new works.
Upon the occasion of Jes Fomsgaard’s 70th birthday, the Johannes Larsen Museum will show a comprehensive exhibition, focusing on the artist’s production over the last 10 years. Jes Fomsgaard is the curator for the show, in cooperation with museum staff.
The exhibition will display some of Fomsgaard’s newest work, not previously shown, while there will be connections made to his past artwork. The exhibition is organized in themes, following the succession of rooms in the exhibition space: CATHEDRAL, PARK, STUDY, CITY, MAP and BEACH.
One of the pivotal points of the exhibition is architecture/ landscape, which makes sense in the exhibition building at the Johannes Larsen Museum, designed by architect Poul Ingemann. The building is placed in the museum’s large park with a view of the beach and the sea. In addition, Ingemann’s architecture is tight and symmetrical, but also surprising and labyrinthine. The same elements are repeated in the works of Jes Fomsgaard, where parts of buildings and concrete forms often are mixed with grid structures and musical note-like doodles of numbers and letters, maps, as well as alleyways and paths. VIEW will therefore be a total installation, combining the artwork and the exhibition rooms’ architecture and views of the surrounding landscape.
There will be a richly illustrated exhibition catalogue, which will include a retrospective article as well as following up on Fomsgaard’s latest production.
